I’m Megan and I’m trying to raise funds for my best buddy Ophelia’s operation and medical care.
Here’s our story… I rescued her when she was 4-5months old and we’ve been inseparable ever since. She unfortunately went blind when she was 4 and at the same time had to have half her tail amputated due to “happy tail syndrome”. It was all due to bad genetics from a breeder more interested in money than the life of an animal. Even though she had setbacks, that didn’t stop her and she adapted to her new way of life and was just as happy as she was before. She’s incredibly strong and resilient and brings so much joy to everyone she meets when she wiggles her whole body in excitement :)
Over the last few years she’s also suffered with stomach and urinary problems, but apart from that she’s been in good health.
Unfortunately last month she became very ill and had to be rushed to the emergency vets who initially thought she would have to be put to sleep. Ophelia being the strong little lady that she is started to
improve and after lots of further testing and scans was diagnosed with a congenital portosystemic shunt and hepatic encephalopathy. I’ll try to attach a link to a website that explains what it is if anybody is interested in the science. Basically it’s a liver problem and what’s been causing her stomach and urinary problems all her life and more recently the neurological issues. The good news is that it is treatable with surgery and if successful she’d have a long life with no other health issues. The bad news is the cost and what I desperately need help with as due to her pre-existing conditions I couldn’t get pet insurance. I’ve already used all my savings and lent money from my parents, totally £3,700 and the operation will be another £3,500. There are of course risks with the surgery, especially due to her age (she’s 6 and normally this condition is found in dogs under 1) but this little dog is such a strong soul and she deserves a chance to be healthy and live a long life.
I would do anything for her, even putting my pride aside and asking for donations… so please if you can, help me save my best friend.
