#OperationFierceLove
Distinguished citizens of the Internet:
In collaboration with The Plastics SG, Icarus FC, and Motorik FC, it is our pleasure and privilege to present to you #OperationFierceLove: a project to get as many of the forthcoming football shirts to as many Black LGBTQ football fans who cannot afford one as possible.
Here's the deal: we want to provide one of these absolutely incredible shirts and a handwritten letter of encouragement and love to every Black LGBTQIA person who loves football (or soccer, if you prefer) who wants one but cannot afford one. As we can't put a finite number on how many beautiful Black queer football fans that would be interested in having one but cannot afford one, we decided to expand from doing it for one person to as many as possible. In order to do that, we're making this appeal to the general public:
- Gift what you can. The more we can raise, the more shirts we can sponsor.
- Whether you can provide the gift of a shirt or not, send a handwritten letter of encouragement and love to us (P.O. Box details forthcoming) to include in the shipment of every shirt we sponsor.
It's pretty much that simple. Let us handle the logistics and admin bits while we set out to spread as much support and admiration of any and every Black queer football fan that we can reach. Anything in the way of resources you can provide would be absolutely magical and would mean the world; not only to us at #OperationFierceLove but to each and every Black LGBTQIA person that we can connect with.
The world is literally and figuratively on fire. Football's subculture is still virulently homophobic, transphobic, and racist. As The Plastics SG and other brilliant football supporter's groups can attest, one of the best ways to build community is to be visible and unapologetic in any space we occupy. Carve out your niche, throw up the signal, and they will come. If there was ever a time to reach out and let folks that are Black and queer know that you can sit with us, it's definitely right now.
So let's get out in front of the current circumstances and help lay the groundwork for the kind of unification Black queer football fans deserve. When we can finally (and crucially, safely) return to the terraces and stands to support our favourite respective football clubs, everything we do will make the dream of creating the kind of inclusive space within football a permanent and prominent reality.
