As a mom, I’ve always known Dominic had the biggest heart. He cares more about giving than receiving. On Christmas morning, he is more excited for us to open the presents he selected than he is opening his own.

Dominic’s giving spirit has only grown stronger and he's always looking for ways to help others. He has a general awareness of what’s going on in the world right now and notices when people are struggling, more so than the average preteen boy. He wants to make a difference. Unfortunately, his ideas are bigger than our budget. It’s hard to say “no” when his heart is in the right place, so we are channeling his determination into a fundraising opportunity.

The idea for Operation Wishbone came during a car ride home while Dom grilled me about Thanksgiving turkey wishbone protocols. He was determined to ensure a wish made over the breaking of a wishbone was valid and avoided all potential technicalities (he is definitely my kid). When I asked what he’d wish for, he said, “I want to be famous… no, I don’t need to be famous. I just want to be rich—so I can help families that need it.” That pretty much sums up Dom (in between bouncing off the walls).

Operation Wishbone is Dominic’s dream to spread kindness and help families in need during the holidays. Every dollar raised, including his own contributions, will go towards food, essentials, and Christmas gifts to our community’s most vulnerable members. Dom said, “no one should be sad during the holidays,” even in times of uncertainty.

My hope is that one day Dom’s wallet catches up with his heart. Until then, we’ll do everything we can to make his wish to help others come true. We could all use some positivity right now❤️
