Operation Viking’s Daughter
Donation protected
This is my daughter Leeyah Patricia Clay who was 13 in March. Leeyah was born in England (Kettering) but now lives in Belize.
Leeyah was recently diagnosed with Scoliosis and Lordosis of the spine (Debilating Curvature) and needs life changing surgery which she will recieve in Mid -January 2019 to rectify this.
Fortunately a US/Canada based charitywww.spineoverseas.org in conjunction with Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, Belize City, have agreed to carry out this surgery in Belize thus saving Leeyah the necessity of having to travel and spend 6+ weeks in United States or Mexico for her surgery and recovery at great monetary expense instead meaning after her surgery she can do the bulk of her recuperation at home surrounded by her family and friends.
Unfortunately Belize has no NHS type system in place and despite her Surgery being free her Pre and Post surgery care is going to cost in the region of $9000 Belizean Dollars (roughly in Sterling £3500). A good example of this is the fact that following her surgery she will require at least one night in Intensive Care and at least 3 units of blood which costs around $550 BD and then weeks of post surgical care & physiotherapy.
(Leeyah will basically need after an Operation this complex 6 weeks off school and then 6 months recovering)
I currently reside in Malta and will be flying out to be with Leeyah for her surgery (at my own expense) in the new year but as a ex-Serviceman basically just living off my British Army Pension whilst living in Malta do not have the £3500 readily available at a couple of months notice for her pre and post surgical care.
Unfortunately Leeyah’s mother and extended family are also not in the financial position of being able to meet these costs at short notice.
So as much as it pains me to ask with Christmas fast approaching any donations at all would be really appreciated as all I want to do is get this horrible surgery for a teenage girl over and done with while she’s still young enough to have a good quality of life.

Cass
PS If you’re wondering about the Viking in the title of this my family going back a thousand years were Anglo-Danish so I’m a Viking by default.
