We are a student team from the University of North Texas raising money for Disabled American Veterans (DAV). This organization helps injured and ill veterans, along with their family caregivers and survivors, get the benefits, care, and services they deserve.
Through our project, we partnered with DAV to support its free help with VA disability and survivor claims, rides to medical appointments, job support, and advocacy so veterans and their families do not have to face these challenges alone. DAV is a private nonprofit and does not receive money from the federal government—so every ride to a medical appointment, every benefits claim helped, and every caregiver or survivor supported depends directly on donations from people like you right now. Every year, DAV helps more than 1 million veterans file claims and secure billions in benefits they have earned.
The need is urgent. Around 30% of U.S. veterans live with a service-connected disability, and more than 5.5 million have at least one such condition. Disabled veterans often have much lower employment rates, and their families work hard to provide daily care, transportation, and emotional support, usually without pay. In 2023, over 74,000 veteran caregivers relied on the VA’s Caregiver Support Program, underscoring how many families shoulder this responsibility. When a disabled veteran passes away, surviving spouses and children rely on DIC, survivor pensions, and CHAMPVA to avoid financial hardship.
Your donation helps DAV continue this important work every day, not just for a single event. The funds support free claims help for veterans and survivors, caregiver support, and access to VA caregiver benefits, rides to medical care, job and transition services, and advocacy to protect and improve benefits for veterans, caregivers, and survivors. If you are unable to donate, sharing our GoFundMe link also makes a real difference.
