Happy Friday, everybody!
We have officially reached 17% of our gofundme goal, and that is cause for celebration! Other very awesome things have happened as well. Jade's old car has been sold, and along with the help of a private donor, a newer, safer, more reliable car has been purchased and will be delivered soon! I can't thank everyone enough for all the love and support. We are almost there!
Currently, the Jade account has enough money to cover the bare essentials for about a month, which is super awesome. There is still work to be done, but thankfully not too much! Even though it looks like we are more than eight grand short of our goal, we are realistically only about two, which is very achievable!
Things we still need to achieve or acquire: 1) a laptop. Jade has made progress updating her resume and has applied to a few jobs, and while she does have a PC, it can still be very difficult for her to sit upright or even make it across the room sometimes, and a laptop would nearly eliminate that barrier because she could work from bed. 2) name and gender marker change. Being in and out of doctors offices and engaging with a legal team to appeal her disability case, Jade is often faced with a name and gender designation that doesn't fit her, and if you know, you know. That can contribute to extreme anxiety. She deserves to be addressed properly, and making it legal would nearly eliminate this problem. 3) cover prescription costs, pay the property tax and insurance on her new car, and have a little leeway if anything goes awry.
Thank you again!
All my love,
Mattan
UPDATE: 09/28/2023
Hello everyone!
Thank you so much for all your donations. At the time of this writing, we have reached about 16% of our goal. Jade is no longer in the hospital, and is feeling super held and supported, by both her close circle as well as all the kind strangers who have offered their help, whether that is time, money, or physical resources. The future is a beautiful place, in no small part because she's gonna be in it!
What's changed? We've received a computer, plenty of pain management and hygiene products, her car has been relocated for sale, her bedroom has been cleaned and reorganized, and she has been set up with routines with her proximal support network to help her stay present, focus on progress, and work toward stability.
What's next? Jade is going to be working with friends and lawyers to appeal her disability case. We have received leads on remote work she can do from the comfort of her bedroom, so applying for jobs is also on the list. I am shopping for a car she can depend on and a laptop she can use from bed.
The $10,000 goal is still very real and necessary. While we were hoping to have everything handled before she was discharged, there is still work to do. Your donation will go towards a "new" car, regular necessities like groceries, prescriptions, and toiletries, as well as eventually paying a disability lawyer.
If you know of a laptop someone would be willing to donate, that would be incredible. If you or someone you know has a reliable remote job, we would love more connections.
Thank you for taking the time.
All my love,
Mattan

Hi friends! My name is Mattan and I've never done this before, but desperate times call for desperate measures. My best friend in the whole world is having a Very Hard Time, and I'm hoping with a little financial assistance, we can help her find her sea legs.
Jade and I met in the summer of 2019, and within minutes we knew that we would need each other for the rest of our lives. Within a month, we were roommates, and we adopted a cat together, my beloved Jeeves! We lived together during quarantine, and we became professional Yahtzee and rummy players, ghost busters, and Bojack Horseman stans. We have shared immeasurable love, countless tears, and many nights of laughing so hard we couldn't breathe. This past week, Jade found herself at the end of her rope and nearly took the Great Escape.
When Jade was in high school, she got shingles. Ya know, chicken pox for old people? Well, she got it when she was a teenager. Sometimes shingles can lead to permanent nerve damage, and in her unlucky case, it did. She lives with a condition called post-herpetic neuralgia, and it affects a specific nerve in her back that is connected to her spine as well as her lung. Long story short, the pain she experiences from this condition can be excruciating and is often debilitating, and since it's connected to such vital things, there is no surgery that can fix it, and she has yet to find a medication or combination of medications to effectively alleviate her pain. This makes things like lifting, standing, walking, and sometimes even sitting upright, very difficult for her, which makes many jobs nearly impossible. She has worked for a few years as staff at an after-school daycare, but her condition has caused her to miss work often and sometimes even leave early, even though her shifts are typically only a few hours.
Because of the physical pain her condition causes her, as well as her federal disability application being rejected, Jade has been really struggling to make ends meet, and she has felt like there is no way out. She is currently staying in a psychiatric hospital to keep her safe while her support network works to help make an environment she can thrive in.
All that being said, we need to set her up to have the basics covered so she can find work that she is capable of doing, and so she can afford necessities while she figures out the job situation. First and foremost, she needs a car. She currently drives a 2006 Jeep Liberty that needs a lot of work. It has an alignment issue that causes it to shake when she is driving, which triggers intense pain for her, and on top of that the transmission is going out. We need to find a dependable used vehicle that can give her reliable transportation so she can make doctor's appointments, pick up prescriptions, and also just have a general sense of freedom.
Secondly, she needs a computer to make it possible for her to work from home. I have a friend who is going to donate a laptop that will help temporarily, but it is a little outdated and a new computer would provide her an avenue for work and also add to her quality of life because she loves pc gaming as well!
Thirdly, we are working to line up a remote job for her. She has experience with retail, food service, sales, and education. She is wildly intelligent and a fast learner. If you can't donate but can provide direction on this front, any advice or guidance is welcome and appreciated.
And fourthly, we want to help her legally change her name and gender marker. Being trans is hard enough, but when you're in and out of medical environments and your paperwork is all under a name and gender that doesn't align with you, it can be so mentally and emotionally draining to constantly remind people how to address you. She deserves to be treated with respect from medical professionals, and having the legal change will make that so much easier.
Thank you for your support and love and if you can't donate, please share.
All my love,
Mattan
