The Locket has partnered with a local cat TNVR (trap-neuter-vaccine-return) operation to help cull the community cat population, having already managed to successfully treat and care for 2 females and 3 males in April, from a colony on East Ave in downtown Lockport. The cats are all recovering wonderfully at a volunteer's home and will have the classic "ear notch" upon return to the colony. Two are even being treated with antibiotics for minor injuries from some scrap they got into recently, which will heal their injuries instead of letting them get worse if left untreated.
To learn more about the trap-neuter-vaccine-return method of managing feral cat populations, please visit this great resource:
"Trap-Neuter-Vaccine-Return (TNVR) is the humane, evidence-based process of trapping community cats, spaying/neutering them, vaccinating against rabies, and returning them to their outdoor homes to manage population growth. It stabilizes colonies, reduces nuisance behaviors like spraying and fighting, and stops the birth of new kittens. Eartipping identifies them as sterilized."
While donations to the clinic sometimes cover the expenses of surgery, oftentimes the trapper or volunteer will have to pay the clinic out-of-pocket. In order to continue this work over the summer, this GoFundMe is requesting cat-loving neighbors of downtown Lockport to each pitch in a little bit. The work will then be able to continue until the community's cat population are all sporting matching ear notches! (=^・ω・^=)
Our first 5 success stories cost a total of $400 out-of-pocket, which is a small price to pay for the health of our cat friends. It is, however, about the limit of what we can do alone. Please consider a small donation to this effort, and together we can ensure a happier, healthier community of kitty cats in our town!
