Operation Houseplant Healing
Military service members continue to take their own lives, leaving a void in the heart of our society and nation. 30,177 post 9/11 military service members have taken their own lives, significantly more than the 7,057 who sacrificed their lives in the post 9/11 conflicts.
Studies have shown that interacting with plants and gardening can decrease cortisol, the primary stress hormone in our bodies. Multiple other studies have found that our physiological and psychological stress is reduced every time we interact with plants. We want to help our heroes grow.
Operation Houseplant Healing (OHH) stands for the lives of military veterans and declares that one more suicide is one too many.
SSG Sean Fowler, USA (Ret.) aka the Combat Veteran Gardener and Lively Root are partnered to deliver 30,177 care packages consisting of plants that connect military veterans to the science-backed benefits of horticulture, a heartfelt reminder that their life matters, and a custom coin highlighting the OHH values.
Donations provide Combat Veteran Gardener x Lively Root care packages consisting of a plant and other meaningful gifts that connect military veterans to the science-backed benefits of horticulture while raising awareness for an ongoing mental health crisis.
