Our Story

Life changed in ways I never could have imagined.

After my husband left our marriage, I suddenly found myself rebuilding my life as a single mother while trying to provide stability for my two young children. At the same time, my father moved in with us so he could support help me.

Not long after, everything changed again. I noticed behaviors that weren’t right, found shirts in the oven, then came home to him disoriented, swollen, and in a hypertensive crisis March 2026 and since then My dad was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD what Bruce Willis has), a rare, progressive, and incurable disease that slowly affects personality, judgment, behavior, and independence.

Instead of simply starting over, I became my father's full-time, unpaid caregiver while raising my children alone. At the same time, I enrolled in college because I refuse to give up on building a better future for my family, even through the hardest season of our lives.

Every day I balance being a single mom, a college student, and an unpaid caregiver. While it hasn't been easy, I wouldn't trade the time I have with my dad for anything.

Before FTD takes away more of the man he is today, I want to give him one incredible gift: the chance to return to Hilo, Hawaii, where his mother grew up and where he has desperately wanted to go for as long as I can remember.

This isn't just a vacation. It's an opportunity for him to reconnect with the place that shaped his family, share those memories with his grandchildren, and create new ones with us while he is still able to enjoy them.

For my children, it's a chance to experience this special place with their grandfather. For me, it's a chance to step away from the constant responsibilities of caregiving, even if only for a short time, and focus on making memories we'll cherish forever.

Frontotemporal Dementia doesn't stop, and time is something we can never get back. We don't know how many opportunities like this we'll have, which is why we're hoping to make this trip happen now. He saved me so many times and now it’s my turn.

My dad was a surf rat until he had a 5 level failed spinal fusion surgery. He loves the ocean and so do it. My grandma, Betty Lou️ is from Hilo and relocated to California during Pearl Harbor. Her childhood home still stands to this day.

A nursing home is never going to be an option. While he still has his long term memory, I see the decline in short term dramatically. He just watches tv all day the light in his eyes has changed tremendously and is confused then he will be he’s sharp as a tool.
