Hi, I'm Amanda, and I’m here to support my dear friend, meggus wolf. I’ve known meggus since 2022, and he’s truly been a light in my life. meggus is a spiritual healer who has offered powerful, channeled tarot readings and guided transformative, meditative, Hollow Bone journeys for his local community in Rogers Park.
meggus has faced immense challenges over the years. In 2015, he went through a traumatic experience that led to divorce, diagnoses of PTSD/CPTSD, and left him disabled and on his own. He faced devastating rejection and lack of support from his family and friends. Despite these hardships, he poured himself into his healing and spiritual work, which was a lifeline through impossible circumstances. He came out as transgender and leaned into his own healing and personal growth, earning a Master-Instructor certification in Integrated Energy Therapy in 2015. In 2019, he became one of the first certified practitioners of the Hollow Bone Journey healing modality, offering guidance and healing for both people and pets.
In 2020, meggus was thriving and living in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood when the pandemic hit, and the city exploded in racial unrest. meggus and his neighbors endured rioting and gun violence in their backyards early in the summer, and a couple months later meggus was targeted for wearing a transgender-identifying mask in a local store. He was brutally beaten. After stumbling home, he blacked out, regaining consciousness two days layer in the hospital being injected with Hadol, loudly protesting it. Yelling that he was reactive to this medication, wasn’t having a psychotic episode, and had not given consent for this treatment. The hospital’s failure to treat his concussion and head injury, combined with inappropriate treatment and malpractice left him with post-concussion syndrome quickly joined by autistic burnout, and without help. He struggled with basic survival, was unable to work, and in 2021 was forced to move from his home of 9 years into a tiny apartment on the other side of the city.
He has faced a years-long battle to find proper help and care. In 2022 meggus underwent neuropsychological testing, where he was diagnosed with a Traumatic Brain Injury, ADHD, and Autism. He began working with a therapist who specializes in neurodivergence and transgender issues, and began taking Testosterone for HRT. meggus has been able to have help at home since early 2023 through a state program for people with TBI, which has made a big impact on his recovery.
However, because brain injuries require significant rest, meggus has been unable to work full-time. He works part-time and receives some assistance, but it’s not enough to cover his basic needs on top of the rest and time off needed for brain recovery, affirming surgery, and follow up with medical issues. The pandemic has had a severe effect on access to assistance and care at a time when meggus needed it most, and he is still struggling to catch up.
meggus has a deep calling to help others and build community through his healing practice and priesthood, but the bureaucratic struggles of navigating social programs and the fixed income this assistance requires have made it incredibly difficult for him to make progress. This GoFundMe campaign will allow meggus to focus on what truly matters—building his business, creating positive impact, and starting a new chapter aligned with his mission and talents.
If donations surpass $9000, the funds will be put into a special needs trust which will cover basic expenses without sacrificing critical access to Medicare, Medicaid, and SSDI. This will allow meggus room to focus on rest, recovery, and rehabilitation which is essential for brain injury.
The idea for this GoFundMe started after meggus shared a bird encounter on TikTok. Check out the post here
From meggus, on the birb: "I've been feeling like it would take a miracle for my circumstances to improve, and then there was a little bird. And we fell in love, and people wanted to bring us together. A tiny little green cheeked conure of a miracle… and wonderful people willing to help change my life. I am a cat person...well, i’m an animal person. A nature witch, a pet communicator, and I work with humans and pets in my healing work.
I have an elderly 20 year old cat/ESA who i adore, and I visit a local store for his supplies...I love that store! the manager is amazing, the people who work there are fantastic. I always go visit the other animals because of course I do, who wouldn't? I give them pep talks and send them healing. Especially the birds and the ferrets. A few months ago, some sassy birds appeared, and I fell in love.
I’d never seen pet store birds so happy and responsive! The manager told me there's staff who work with them, interacting & socializing, and it shows…but this little Conure stole my heart. He's so silly! We have entire conversations, and honestly are a lot alike I’ve never had a bird respond to me so positively, and I’ve never felt this way about a bird!
There is something special about our connection, the way we communicate, and the way he just wormed his goofy little self into my heart…to the point where I'm considering a bird, despite my other challenges. But my other challenges are real, and I'm a responsible pet owner. I have no doubt I can learn how to take care of him exactly as he needs, but in order to take him home, I'd need a level of stability that would allow me to care for both him and myself in the right way. So here we are. Thank you for helping me change my life, with a splash of birb. ❤️"
