Operation fix Roly

6 years ago I bought my best friend, my absolute world and the best dog I could of ever asked for.
He was advertised as an 8 month old golden labrador for £100. By far the best money I have ever spent. When I viewed him what I saw broke my heart, he was so underweight I almost cried and they had him in a cage in the corner, which they hadn't even cleaned for my viewing. He was not golden, he is a Fox Red Labrador cross... Without a second thought, I handed them the money with some harsh words and took 'Marley' away from who was clearly incapable of looking after him.
As he got bigger and older I noticed his left knee was larger than the right. I took him to limes tree vets in Cheadle. After accessing his knee they said it felt like a birth defect and they would have to see how he got on as he grew. He showed no sign of struggle or hold back until about 3 years ago. I started to notice a limp as he walked and he began to slow down so I took him to the PDSA in Derby for xrays and further advice. They told me my boy had chronic arthritis in his left leg and that he would have to live on Meloxidyl for the rest of his life. But these past couple of months have been awful and he completely deteriorated
One morning I was awoken to the most heartbreaking whimper I have ever heard come from my pooch, I rushed to him as he was walking out of the other room, still whimpering. I encouraged him to sit and called the pdsa for an appointment to see them. They took further xrays and told me Roly has femoral bowing, a luxating patella, degenerative joint disease and hip displacia, this broke my F'ing heart! Roly is my absolute world and is the best dog you could ask for. Anyone who meats my fat man, loves him with every ounce of their body as all he wants to do is please people, bring them balls and love with all his heart. I have 7 nieces and nephews, and he follows them everywhere and loves and protects them with all his might. If they move, he moves. If they're in different places, he does not settle and paces. If I play fight with my nephews, he tells me when he thinks I'm getting too rough, barks at me and grabs my hand (just moves my hand away, tail wagging and I'm his owner) when they're sleeping at Uncle Kevs, and they're in bed, he sleeps on the top step of the stairs, guarding the ones he loves. He's so gentle, so loving, so kind and such a people pleaser I couldn't bare to think of him in this condition. I turned to Facebook for help and suggestions and recommendations for supplements, aids and a reliable vet. I was given all of these but was also told by many local dog owners, family and friends to start a fundraiser and they would donate, which was so overwhelming.
The PDSA had told me his condition was genetic, as they saw no fractures, breaks or torn ligaments. They admitted my options were few, ans their help was exhausted, and could only refer me elsewhere. I had heard of a very good vet at St Leonards Vets in Allestree and Derby, named Karl Underhill. I sought him out and made an appointment to see him. I requested for all xrays and notes taken by the PDSA to be sent to Karl at Saint Leonards for him to look at. A week later I had my appointment and the xrays hadn't been sent, so he could only access and feel Rolys leg while we awaited the xrays. He told me Rols has a luxating patella at a grade 4 level, it's completely dislodged and would require surgery to put the knee back in place, which would cost £1800.
3 days and several calls to the pdsa later, Karl got the xrays and noticed it was not as simple as he initially thought. He has actually found a fracture in my boys leg!!!! He told me it looks like the fracture had occurred in his juvenile years, as its completely grew out of place and his entire leg has formed wrong and instead of a knee operation, Roly needs an entire leg operation which would include rebreaking his leg, sawing the bone and pinning it into place and fixing the patella back into position. I knew this would send that original £1800 through the roof but Karl Underhill, is by far the best vet I have ever seen, could ever of asked for or visited. The operation is close to £4000 but he understands my current situation and because he had originally quoted £1800 for knee surgery, he is going to perform the entire operation for £1800 for me!!!
I understand entirely, he is my dog and my responsibility hence why I have sold my motorbike, some work tools to raise money and each months payment I get, all my spare money will go to my dogs operation, but many people have offered to help me if I set this page up, so pride aside as my dog is my entire world, this is my go fund me for Operation Fix Roly. I have set it to £2000 as I'm aware of consultations and after care. I won't sit and let this page grow alone, I am paid Monday and Thursday next week and will also donate. Any help whether it's pence or pounds is really appreciated. I just want my boy to spend his next 7-8 years, pain free :(
