Eddie’s Journey Home to Texas

Fourteen-year-old Eddie has been on quite the adventure—and now, with your help, he’s finally going home.

At the end of September, this sweet senior tabby was brought to the Erie Humane Society by a kind-hearted Good Samaritan who found him wandering near the Pilot station off Rt. 97 in Erie. Thankfully, Eddie was microchipped, but when our team tried to call the number on file, it was no longer in service.

Determined to help Eddie find his family, our adoptions staff contacted the shelter he was originally adopted from, who provided additional owner information. We reached out via email—and to our delight, Eddie’s owner responded. What we learned next made our hearts ache.

Back in June, Eddie’s owner had been making a big move from Buffalo, NY to just outside Houston, Texas. During an overnight stop at a hotel, Eddie managed to squeeze behind an access panel in the bathroom—and vanished. His owner searched desperately, but despite every effort, Eddie was nowhere to be found. Heartbroken and out of time, he had to continue on to Texas without his faithful companion, fearing he would never see him again.

When he learned that Eddie was alive and safe at the Erie Humane Society, he was overcome with emotion. After months apart, he finally had hope that his best friend would be coming home.

Unfortunately, Eddie’s owner doesn’t drive and doesn’t have the means to transport Eddie all the way from Pennsylvania to Texas. That’s where we—and you—come in.

Our compassionate staff goes above and beyond for the animals in our care, and we’re committed to helping Eddie complete his incredible journey home. We’re asking for the support of our amazing community to help us raise $1,500 to cover travel costs—including fuel, vehicle rental, lodging, and veterinary health certification—for one of our team members to personally accompany Eddie on the long trip to Texas.
