This year Satya Yoga has made it our mission to raise the funds for WNYHeroes Pawsitive for heroes program. The Pawsitive program pairs a local veteran with a service dog, and takes care of everything involved including all training, which cost $5,000.
Along with this fundraiser we have committed to donating all proceeds from every Wendesday Night community class throughout 2020. As of 2/6 we have raised a little over $400 in class donations.
Please help us raise the funds needed, no donation is too small (or too large). We believe in and support the work WNYHeroes does for our local veterans, and we have supported them since we opened our doors by raising money through donation classes and adopting a families for the holidays.
Why a Service dog?
A service dog can help reduce the risk or, addiction, depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts in veterans. Which can help reduce medical/psychiatric costs. They can also help the veteran feel safe, protected and unconditionally loved which in turn can help them go back to school or work and help them reconnect with their families.
Depending on the circumstances a service dog can interrupt flashbacks by licking, nudging and/or pawing their companion. They can also lay/sit on their companion during an anxiety and/or panic attack, their body weight helps ground the individual. The dog can stand behind their companion while in line at the bank or grocery store to keep watch. Some dogs are trained to Remind the veteran to take their medication.
These are just a few examples of what these dogs can do to enhance a veterans life, each veteran is different so their dog has a specific skill set.
