Operation bring Pistol Home
Hi Everyone,
I haven’t ever done anything like this, but I literally don’t know what else I can do so this is my last ditch effort to get my dog back to our family.
It’s crazy how much a dog can capture your heart. We all love our animals and would do anything for their wellbeing. My dog was rescued at 10
months old and was born deaf and she is partially blind. After humane society in Hawaii said they were going to put her down, I couldn’t just leave here there and before I knew it, I had a dog. Fast forward 8 years, I lost her in one of the worst and most abrupt ways ever. It was heartbreaking and my husband and I are left with the biggest holes in our hearts and a void in our small family.
I am hoping there are people out there who hear my story and are open to helping me get her back. Whether it be financially, spreading the word or just offering your words of encouragement.
October 31, 2019 will stand out as one of the saddest days I’ve lived through to date. My husband and I were at the final leg of our move back to Hawaii. We made it on the plane and we were 5 minutes
from departing when everything took a turn for the worst. Our dog got so anxious from the airport that she bit off one of her hemangioma ( skin tumors) and was actively bleeding in her dog crate under the plane. The crew determined it was unsafe for her to fly.
I deplaned with with my dog, put another rental car and hotel night on my credit card and went straight to the emergency vet .... which I also ended putting on that credit card.
Fortunately, they were able to dress the wound and slow the bleeding. Unfortunately, that would not be enough to make her flight worthy. At this point it would require another surgery. On top of that extended stay for recovery from the surgery. The surgery alone would run about $5k. I called around other vet clinics but no one could give me quotes without a consult and no guarantees of same day surgery.
I had a deadline, as the airlines gave me a day for my return flight. And again limited resources at this time due to our move timeline and budget.
It was truly devastating all our money had been tied up with moving back to Hawaii. We’ve already spent thousands of dollars and countless hours coordinating all the work to get both our dogs prepped for the move...including vaccinations, bloodwork countless vet visits and quarantine applications, crates, plane tickets etc. there was no room in the budget for medical emergencies and no contingency plan. I had 1 day to decide what to do.
As I exited the emergency clinic with a heavy heart, I saw a van for humane society.and bursted in tears because I felt that was my only viable option at this point. They would at least have a shot at saving her life and providing her with the care she needs.
I drove my dog down and surrendered my dog of 8 years... the dog I’ve nursed back to health countless times... invested so much time and energy into her... I didn’t realize just how attached I truly was until the realization that I had to give her for her to have a chance at a longer life.
I have never cried more my entire life... I’m still crying.
Anyways, to make a long story short. I have since learned that there are ways we may be able to get her back!!! The humane society deemed she was worth saving and performed the surgery on her to remove her tumors and will be putting her up for readoption.
There are some kickers and financial issue that are blocking our road to reclaiming her - which would requires us paying back the humane society all the medical expenses or via a surrogate to readopt and foster her for us. Both options are possibilities of reuniting us with our dog!
The first option would guarantee we get our dog back but of reclaiming might be possible but we need financial help in order to make that possible...
The second option of someone we know readopting and fostering her is kind of a crap shoot, as readoption is on a first come first serve basis, so if someone else adopts her before our person gets to her, we will lose her forever...
We are hoping we can raise enough money to afford to pay the humane society back for the surgery and medical care and reclaim our beloved dog.
Anything helps. Whether you choose to donate to our cause or spread the word and share this with your network, we really appreciate all of your help!
