OPERATION: A Prickly-manoeuvre

Did you know that our native hedgehogs are classified as “Vulnerable to Extinction” on the Mammals Society Red List. Every hedgehog we rescue is one step closer to changing this! But they have a difficult time - many arrive at the rescue suffering from wounds e.g. from garden strimmers, infections, flystrike, internal parasites, dehydration, and other life-threatening conditions. Despite our best efforts to care for all hedgehogs needing help, our current set-up of 24 spaces is not enough to meet the growing demand!

In our busiest season (June – October) we are often full to capacity…but the phone rings and we know that there is another hedgehog in desperate need of help! We always try our very best to get it to another rescue or knowledgeable vet, however this often takes time – something that a poorly hedgehog often doesn’t have! Combine this with more travelling causing further stress and delayed treatment - some sadly can’t fight for long enough.

Our dream? To have the space to help every hedgehog that needs it!
We have found some land to lease but we need your help funding a new Hogspital.
What's planned? A 12 x 4m new building (like the AI image below)

This will provide us with:
  • Larger ICU room - the hub of the rescue where vital first aid and critical care takes place. This larger area will enable us to have more ICU incubators
  • A neonatal ward for hoglets (baby hedgehogs).
  • Larger rehabilitation room - this room will enable us to double our current capacity
  • A small reception area - to book in patients without disturbing those recovering.

Please donate whatever you can to this important mission!
