OperAffinity - Piano & music program for children

OperAffinity is raising money to purchase a piano and music program for the children of the Mukuru slums, so they can begin their musical education and dance and sing their way into a brighter future.

Operaffinity recently had the privilege of introducing classical music to the young children of the Mukuru Promotion Centre who live within the slums of Nairobi. The Mukuru Promotion centre is run by Sister Mary Killeen who has dedicated her life to promoting education and helps over 6,000 children every year.

The children have a great passion for music, but with no access to a piano their music teachers have little hope of developing their talents and providing the children with the basic music skills they need to start performing.

With the help of donations the children from various schools and disbaility centres within the Mukuru Promotion Centre will be able to access the piano for their music classes.

OperAffinity first came about from an idea to make opera more widely understood and appreciated by new audiences and establish educational programmes that cater for groups that have minimal resources and little to no access to the arts and music in general.
