OpenForService.org was created to celebrate businesses that promote diversity and are commited to fight discrimination.

 As many know, legislature is currently being written to allow businesses to discriminate based on religious freedoms. This poses a threat to many individuals and families. Not all social classes are protected by law and are at risk of becoming a candiate for discrimination when merely shopping for products or services. 

 OpenForService.org has designed an emblem that business owners and individuals can purchase to proudly display their opposition to discrimination.  The emblem started as a sticker to place in business windows but has now expanded to allow those without a  storefront to show their support. 

 Not only is Open For Service hoping to build a strong sense of community but also a directory of businesses that oppose discrimination. The same-sex family, individual of a different religion, person of a different ethnic group, etc.  can check the directory of businesses on OpenForService.org before shopping to ensure he/she will not be subject to prejudice store owners. Open For Service sends a message out to society beyond legislation. Discrimination, bigotry, and prejudice still exist and are as present now as they ever have been in the past. It's important to show that we, as a community, are ready to work towards equality for everyone. 

 We don't plan on having a large staff, elaborate office space, or crushing overhead. We want to build an ever-expanding nationwide network of open-minded organizations, companies, and business owners.

 However, maintaining the database, protecting the mission of the campaign, legal fees, web hosting, a complimentary web listing, etc. is getting extremely expensive. All proceeds from the sale of the Open For Business stickers are being donated to Score.org; another non-profit. Up until now, the mission has been self-funded. We're hitting a point though where this is no longer sustainable. 

 We are hoping to raise enough money to cover the costs incurred by OpenForService.org. Additionally, we would like to offer a position to someone to work on the mission as well as a possible intern. 

 If you could help, we would be eternally grateful. Any amount helps. Of course, ensuring that every person and business wanting an Open For Service sticker is able to have one is the top priority. After that, we want to expand the database and online presence as much as possible. We had no idea the response to Open For Service would be so great. The online database wasn't started until we began receiving requests for the listing. The costs associated to the database are more than we can handle without your help.

If we hit our goal of $150,000, we'll have a dedicated employee, an intern, and be able to maintain the directory for an entire year!
