Common Grounds Vibe Cafe, Soft Opening 8.15.25

Common Grounds is a family owned business that started in DeKalb IL on July 9th 2016 as a non-profit. Our focus has always been creating a place where anyone can get inspired. As we grew, our mission broadened along with financial plans. DeKalb and Sycamore gave us a wonderful start as the cafe concept resonated with NIU students, musicians and local artists. As our family transitioned, the need for growth accelerated. We became a business L.L.C. in 2022 and decided to close the following year. The best choice became moving to the Western Chicago suburbs. A popular downtown coffeeshop closed in Downtown Lombard, which created an opportunity for Common Grounds, Vibe Cafe. The new vibe logo conveys what Common Grounds has always brought to the marketplace, creativity, diversity and collaboration with every cup. That's the recipe for our success as we now invest in the Lombard IL region.

New kid on the block

In Lombard Common Grounds will be anchored near Metra Commuter Rail Service, foot traffic and numerous event on St. Charles Road, and a short drive from the communities of Oak Brook Terrace, Elmhurst, Villa Park and Glen Ellyn. We will feature locally roasted organic coffee with Spiritus Roastery in Lombard. Our menu includes our hand crafted Chi Town Chai, Matcha and other crafted tea varieties. Our smoothies are health focused with Greek Yogurt, nutritional boosts, vegetable, fruit and protein options.

Common Grounds needs financial support to help offset unexpected startup and operational costs. Every dollar helps us reach our August 15th soft opening date and staffing goals through fall 2025. With your help we will become a place where collaboration and diversity flow with every cup.
