Help ROAR Bring Paddleboarding to Our Recovery Community
At ROAR — Redding Outdoor Addiction Recovery, we believe recovery is about more than just staying sober. It’s about reconnecting with life, nature, and other people who understand the journey.
Over the past year, we’ve been building a community where people in recovery can show up, feel welcomed, and experience the outdoors together. Through activities like hikes, trail walks, and disc golf, we’ve watched strangers become friends, confidence grow, and people rediscover joy in sobriety.
Our group is made up of people from many different recovery paths. Some follow 12-step programs, others practice mindfulness-based recovery, and many come from other approaches or are simply exploring a healthier path forward. What brings us all together isn’t one specific program — it’s a shared desire to connect with others and experience recovery through the outdoors.
Many people who have joined us came because they struggled to find a recovery community that felt right for them. Some weren’t looking for a traditional 12-step program, while others had never gone to rehab but knew they desperately wanted to make a change in their lives. They were searching for a place where they could build community in a way that felt comfortable and authentic to their own recovery journey.
For many of them, they’ve now found that place here with ROAR.
Now we’re hoping to expand those opportunities by launching a weekly paddleboarding activity.
To make this possible, we’re raising funds to purchase 3 paddleboards and 3 life jackets that participants can use during our outings.
One thing that makes ROAR unique is that we provide equipment whenever possible. Early recovery can be financially challenging, and we never want a lack of income to prevent someone from getting outside, trying something new, or connecting with others who share the same goal of living a sober life. By providing gear, we remove barriers and make sure that anyone who wants to participate has the opportunity to do so.
Paddleboarding would give our community another way to experience peace, adventure, and connection on the water — something many people in recovery may have never had the chance to try before.
Our Mission:
Helping people in recovery find connection, support, and joy in sobriety – fostering a sense of resilience, adaptability, community, and a sense of adventure – often with a little fresh air along the way – because no one should have to walk the path of recovery alone.
Our Vision:
To create a safe, uplifting space where anyone in recovery can rediscover joy, connection, and purpose through outdoor adventures – one step, one ride, one game, and one day at a time.
Your donation might help purchase a paddleboard — but what it truly creates is another opportunity for someone in recovery to find connection, belonging, and hope.
Thank you for supporting ROAR and the people we serve. ❤️
