Open the Bay Islands Hospital in Roatan
Tax deductible
For the last 24 years, Global Healing has provided resources to help establish new projects across the globe to improve the health care of women and children,
including building the first pediatric cardiac center in Tbilisi, Georgia, improving the collection of blood in Moldova and Haiti, and establishing the Roatán Volunteer
Pediatric Clinic in Honduras. To continue our important work, we're excited to
announce a new program in partnership with the Bay Islands Hospital Project.
There is a critical need for a new, larger, modern hospital in Roatán, which also serves Utila and Guanaja. A hospital was started seven years ago. It was never
completed because the necessary funding never came through. Now it sits, an empty
shell of a building. A group of concerned individuals with deep ties to the Bay Islands has come together to finish this important project. The intent is to create a hybrid public /private hospital where no patient is turned away – regardless of their ability to pay.
BUILDING FOR A BETTER FUTURE: NEW BAY ISLANDS HOSPITAL
Global Healing's long-time volunteer, co-founder of the Roatán Volunteer Pediatric Clinic, and current board member, Dr. Eric Scher, recommended this partnership and the Board of Directors unanimously approved. This collaboration provides great promise for the better health of the population of the Bay Islands and its visitors. We are very excited and optimistic, but our work is just beginning. Global Healing has committed initial seed money of $15,000 and fundraising support for the first of four phases of building the New Roatán Hospital. The first phase includes project definition, planning, and establishing administration. The result of the first phase will be a Hospital Master Plan that includes details of the project, such as the regional needs assessment, architecture and construction, equipment sourcing, staffing, and more. This plan is created by various experienced professionals in different fields, and vetted by consultants with the necessary credentials. This phase is expected to cost about $100,000 and is necessary to secure multinational funding in the order of tens of millions of dollars, which will be administered by the foundation created for this purpose, and overseen by Global Healing.
