Unexpected Repairs @ Gnarly Deli
Donation protected
Gnarly Deli began as a hot dog cart, which evolved into a food truck. Now, after 5 years, we are making yet another transformation into a brick and mortar restaurant in downtown Chico California!
We took over our new location on October 1, 2021, the day after the previous tenant's final day of operations. Immediately we started finding problems within the building that we didn't anticipate, and correcting these problems couldn't be put off even for the short term. Thus far, in one month, we've had to make many critical repairs and renovations that have proven to be costlier than we were prepared for. Between not operating our truck to focus on this project and the very likely delay in opening our restaurant due to these unexpected discoveries, we haven't been generating revenue from the business, forcing us to pay for most of these unforeseen repairs out of our personal pockets. Sure, we made the choice to move into a downtown building that's well over 100 years old. Knowing this risk we took it anyway, and now we are basically fixing the foundation from below the ground up. Our leased space is the basement of the historic Etta Chiapella building. It's a sprawling 4980 sq. feet. We've been taking this time attempting to fix everything we can from leaks on the roof, to cracks in the floor in our future subterranean Deli. Any contributions made will not only support us financially, but it aids in preserving our downtown history.
Thank you for reading and just being a Gnarly fan!
Sincerely,
