Hi! My name is Sanjna Arun, and I am a high school student at Skyline High School with roots deeply connected to India. Every year, I visit India with my family - I see the vast beauty of the country as well as the struggles people face. This summer, I don't just want to be a bystander to the clear hardships many Indians are facing - I want to take action and help improve lives, one person at a time. I’m organizing a free eye care camp in the rural town of Ooty, India, where access to vision care is extremely unaffordable. In many underprivileged communities, simple problems like blurry vision go untreated because people can’t afford glasses. Children can’t read at school. Adults can’t work safely. Elders lose independence. All because of something so easily preventable. My goal is to help fix that—one pair of glasses at a time.
With your support, I will:
1. Host a community eye care camp in Ooty to serve as many people as possible
2. Hire licensed optometrists in India to conduct free vision screenings at the eye camps
3. Use funds to buy eyeglasses for people who can't afford them, and personally distribute these glasses to each and every person's specific optermetic needs
Every donation—no matter the size—goes directly toward changing someone’s life. $10 can help cover a basic eye exam for a child struggling to see the chalk board at school. $20 can fund a pair of prescription glasses to help a grandmother see her grandkids clearly. Anything and everything is appreciated. Every donation matters! Together, we can bring clear vision to people who have never had it.
I've always had bad vision; I have astigmatism and -3.00 vision in both eyes. I'll never forget the moment I put on my first pair of glasses at 6 years old. I still remember being starstruck by a tree; I could not fathom that leaves were not green blobs. The world looked so sharp, so real, that I could barely walk straight. That moment changed my life. If you’ve ever experienced the magic of seeing clearly for the first time and seen the world come into focus, you know how powerful that feeling is. Help me give that gift to others.
Thank you so much for your support!
