Open Doors For Dom
Donation protected
In October of 2017, we participated in a cultural exchange between residents of Leverett, MA and residents of a rural county in the Appalachians of Kentucky. See: https://www.handsacrossthehills.org
During the Kentuckians visit to Leverett, we met a wonderful teen named Dom. Dom, born female, but identifying as male, was raised in a loving family. His school and community life in rural Appalachia however, has been dominated by bullying and a lack of peer, school, and emotional support which resulted in his leaving school in March.
Having been so warmly welcomed by the Leverett and Amherst Regional High School communities in October, Dom has taken the courageous step of choosing to come to Shutesbury to live with a host family and complete his senior year at ARHS. Remarkable people have stepped forward to make this happen. Like us, they see the potential in this kind, resilient, courageous teen to make a difference in his community if given a chance to graduate from high school in an environment where he will thrive.
We need your help to make this happen. While his family is working hard to contribute what they can, the financial costs of living here and flying home during school vacations are more than his family can provide.
We would like to raise $4000. to help Dom purchase school supplies, winter clothes, pursue extracurricular activities, travel home, and cover other unexpected costs that may arise. Please consider donating to this worthy cause.
We believe that collectively we are changing a life . Please join us.
Dom and his mother's gratitude know no bounds. We have no doubt that your contribution will also give you the sense of gratification we continue to experience in supporting this wonderful young person.
Please continue to visit this site for updates on Dom's progress.
With gratitude,
Team Dom
