Open Cheyney College Doors for Jose Celso Barbosa Students

We are the Jose Celso Barbosa Middle School for Social Justice. We think it is unjust that some students in our neighborhood have never heard of HBCU's! NYC funding for College Access For All has dried up and so did all the activities that exposed students to colleges and the professions to which college can lead. We want to make sure that our students are aware that college is one future pathway to which they have access. Many students don't have any idea about what they are working towards when teachers and parents say, "You have to do well now so you can get into a good high school, so you can get into a good college." Students need a frame of reference! We want our students to see other students who look like them in a college atmosphere so they see what is possible.
