Wally Stopher (also known as Oat Willie) was a beloved friend, storyteller, and musician. He lives on in our hearts and is an essential part of the atmosphere and mythology of old Austin. In Wally's final years, he was cared for with deep compassion by Erin Townsend Pate, who brought him comfort, joy, and peace. Erin’s dedication and service to Wally were truly inspiring to me and so many others.

She covered the costs of Wally's cremation out of her own pocket and is also planning to pay for his headstone and inter his remains in her family plot. I started this fundraiser because I don't think Erin should have to pay for all this by herself. Erin took on these expenses out of love, but there are so many of us who loved Wally. By contributing, you can help pay for the funeral, cremation, and burial costs. Every donation, no matter the size, will help.

As we all know, Wally was the nicest guy, an original Austin hippie and soft-spoken gentleman who loved talking to people. He wasn't rich in material wealth, but he had tons of friends. I hope we can come together now to help pay to send him onward.
