Only a liver transplant will save Maja's life

Update 16/02/2026

On 03/02/2026, our brave little girl Maja underwent a life-saving liver transplant. I had the honour of being her living donor. Two operating theatres, two surgeries happening at the same time, and one enormous hope — that she would be given a second chance at life.

Both surgeries were successful, and her new liver has started working. Hearing those words felt like a miracle. Maja’s results are very good, and every positive update fills our hearts with gratitude. The only thing that still worries us is her persistently high blood pressure, but the doctors are watching her closely and taking great care of her.

Maja remains under observation in the liver ward at Leeds Children’s Hospital. Although we are beyond thankful for how far she has come, this journey is not over yet. Each day brings hope, but also new challenges.

We are still asking for your support. The hotel costs alone are extremely high, and our situation has changed completely. Because of my donor surgery, I cannot return to work for at least three months while my body heals. Maja’s dad has had to leave his job to care for her around the clock, as I recover. Right now, our only focus is Maja — her healing, her strength, her future.

As soon as she comes home, we want to begin rehabilitation and psychological therapy to help her process everything she has been through. She has shown unimaginable bravery, but she is still just five years old.

Thank you for standing with us, for your prayers, your kindness, and for helping us believe that after everything — there is still so much beautiful life ahead of our little girl.

——————————————————

This is our 5-year-old daughter, Maja.

For years, we believed she was a healthy, happy little girl.
In July 2025, our world collapsed — we learned she never was.

Maja was diagnosed with AAT deficiency, a rare genetic disease that silently destroyed her body. It led to cirrhosis of the liver, an enlarged spleen, and four varices in her esophagus — ticking time bombs that can rupture at any moment and cause life-threatening bleeding.

Only a liver transplant can save Maja’s life.

To protect her before the transplant, Maja can no longer attend school. Every infection could be fatal. I had to quit my job to stay with her and keep her safe.
On February 3rd, I will become my daughter’s living liver donor — giving her a part of myself so she can live.

After the transplant, Maja’s dad will also have to leave his job to care for us both.
The road ahead is long and overwhelming:
• months of recovery
• rehabilitation
• psychological therapy
• weekly hospital check-ups in Leeds
• frequent overnight stays and hotel costs

We are doing everything we can as parents — emotionally, physically, and with all the love we have — but the financial burden is more than we can manage alone.

We are not asking for millions.
We are asking for help, hope, and a chance for our daughter to live a normal childhood.

Every donation, every share, every kind thought brings us one step closer to saving Maja’s life.
From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for standing with us. ❤️
