My name is Zachary Corral. I'm the oldest of four boys. In 2011, my little brother, Joshua "Chachi" Corral, was killed in Afghanistan serving our country as a "sweeper" (leads missions with a metal detector to uncover explosives) for the United States Marine Corp. On November 11, 2011, he stepped foot on an "I.E.D." (improvised explosive device). As an older brother, I struggled with the reality that I was not there with him, that I was not there to lead the way, to protect him, and to hold him when he needed his brother the most. If I could only kiss him one more time, hold him, tell him that I love him, but I can't. But there will come a day when I can, and I will. But in the meantime, I have a mission just like he did. I made a promise to Chachi that I too will serve others and surrender to the mission that will one day lead me back to him - to love like Christ loves and to share with His children how much He loves them.
Last summer, my friend and I organized and ran a soccer camp with 100+ youth in Haiti through an organization called United Christians International. UCI is a unique organization that teaches, equips and unites people from some of the most impoverished communities in the world. They have been growing since their founding in 2005 and now manage an elementary school, university, health clinic, nutrition center, seminary, and training center for medical and agricultural students and most recently a sports complex.
Although the sports complex worked well for the soccer camp and continues to build up the surrounding community, it is yet to be completed. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to finish what was started. The proceeds will go towards the remaining construction of the soccer field, a new volley ball and basketball court, a wall that will surround the area and costs for another youth camp. We are running the second soccer camp this summer from July 24th-28th to provide a place where Haiti's children can come and forget about it all - the hunger, the uncertainty of tomorrow, the disease, and the death. We just want them to have an escape, a sanctuary where they can come and learn about life, hope, power, healing, and peace in a world that offers them none of these. The funding raised will allow the children to do this at no cost to them.
The children will be able to learn about Jesus through soccer, and how they can serve their teammates and community by encouraging others and loving unconditionally. I shared my brother's story and testimony at the last camp and shared how "all of us will give some" but "some of us will give all." Chachi gave it all, he laid down his life serving others, like Christ did for us. "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. John 15:13"
Funds will be transfered into my personal bank account and from there we will suprise UCI leadership with a check made in the amount of $10,000. I ask that you would be a part of this vision to provide a safe place where our little kings and queens can be free, and most importantly learn about Jesus! If you would like to have a conversation with me before donating or have any additional questions or are interested in coming with me - please feel free to give me a call @ [phone redacted]. If you feel led to donate, please email me @ [email redacted] with your mailing address so I can send you a personal thank you as well as pictures, updates, etc. Thank you all! From the inner most depths, I just want to thank you for considering being a part of something bigger than yourself. Our world needs people like you - leaders, dreamers and hearts that are ready to lay it all down for our brothers and sisters that share this earth with us.
Love,
Zack
