Brian O'Neill courageously fought an 18-month battle with cancer and passed away on July 20, 2021. Brian was an avid sports fan in New Mexico and will be missed by the sports community and his beloved Cibola High School family. He played basketball and graduated from Cibola in 1983, and later returned to lead the boys’ basketball team from 1992 to 1998. His teams made two State Tournament appearances and he was named New Mexico Coach of the Year in 1993.  Brian then moved into the collegiate coaching ranks with stints at UNM and Baylor University. He later became the executive director of the New Mexico Sports Authority. He was an analyst for the play-by-play broadcast of games for 13 years on ESPN 101.7 The TEAM. His love for Cibola sports was apparent throughout his life as he was the originating member of the Cibola Athletics Hall of Fame. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in support of the Cibola Athletic Hall of Fame in his honor.
