Hi, I’m Kris Baillie, a partially sighted and autistic long-distance charity fundraiser from Kirkcaldy, Fife, and a long-term supporter and service user of SeeScape, Fife’s sight-loss charity.
In May 2025, to mark SeeScape’s 160th anniversary, I completed a continuous 3,200-mile public transport journey from Shetland to Penzance and back to Fife using ferries, trains and coaches. The challenge attracted national and regional media attention and was designed not only to raise funds, but to demonstrate that independent travel with sight loss is still possible, even across some of the most demanding routes in Britain.
From Monday 11th May to Saturday 16th May this year, exactly one year on from that original journey, I will be setting off again for an anniversary repeat challenge — this time focused entirely on Scotland.
Rather than travelling the full length of Britain again, this year’s journey will remain north of Berwick-upon-Tweed and Carlisle, which will act as my southern terminals before the route turns north once more. The challenge will again involve continuous long-distance travel by public transport, including rail and ferry services, covering thousands of miles across Scotland and the far north.
The route includes symbolic return legs through Aberdeen and Shetland, revisiting parts of last year’s journey while reflecting how much SeeScape’s support — and public awareness of sight loss accessibility — has continued to grow over the past year.
Every donation helps support the work SeeScape carries out for people living with visual impairment across Fife, including rehabilitation support, accessible technology, social support services, low-vision assistance and helping people maintain independence.
Thank you to everyone who supported last year’s challenge, followed the journey, donated, shared updates, or simply encouraged me along the way. This anniversary trip is for all of you too.
