Hi Folks!
I am here asking for your help to put up my new one woman show about my Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I have been offered a two night run by The Tank NYC (https://www.thetanknyc.org/) with the possibility for a longer run if it goes well!
I have written a one woman show about my OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and how it engages specifically with my sexuality and relationships. The show essentially takes the audience through different stages of my life and how those stages were affected by/informed by my Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. From childhood to the present, I explore the different obsessions and compulsions I have suffered from -- ranging from obsessive hand washing to counting my father's breaths as he sleeps at night to being afraid of unintentionally impregnating my mother!-- and work through how they have impacted my relationships to loved ones. It's funny I PROMISE :)
I wrote this story because I felt like I had gone through my life with this thing that deeply affected me and the people around me, but none of those people quite understood what it was, and that was deeply frustrating and isolating. In fact, most people in general don't understand what OCD is-- even the people that have it. People can go most of their lives without realizing what they are going through. I made this show so I could share my story with the people that need to hear it-- those struggling with OCD that don't talk about it or don't know they have it, those who love people with OCD but don't know how to support them, and many more. I can't tell you how many people have come up to me after comedy shows telling me about their own OCD and how they had never shared their obsessions before with anyone. Comedy and theatre are incredibly powerful tools for getting people to open up and feel less alone-- this is why I am making this show. I want to share my story in hopes that it will help others to feel a little less alone and misunderstood.
WHAT I NEED TO PAY FOR:
I am lucky to have been awarded a spot at The Tank, which means that I don't have to pay for space, insurance, marketing, staff or printing. I do however need to pay for the following--
1) My fantastic director
2) Rehearsal space
3) Graphic designer for the poster
4) Tech person for rehearsal and performances
Any help you might be able to give is deeply appreciated!
