Hi , I'm Mary Estcourt and Veronica Foale is my friend.

At 4.00 am on 8 November 2024 Veronica and her husband Nate and their three school age kids, Amy, Isaac and Evelyn, were burnt out of their extremely modest little house at Melton Mowbray by an electrical fire. They lost everything except their night clothes.

At the time a fundraiser made almost $38,000 to help them replace personal and living items and to buy an old bus, in which they have lived, summer and winter, since early last year.

Yes the building was insured, but woefully under insured, with no hope of giving them back a warm home they could live in.

After 12 months of red tape, work was authorised by their insurer on a kit home, but the money has run out and they are still living in the bus next to the roofed frame of the kit build.

They are doing what they can themselves, installing windows and cladding, but there is so much more needed to give them a warm living space for this winter.

I know of no more beautiful, caring or deserving people. Veronica runs a small online business making soap, and she fosters cats, but she and the kids have significant health needs and the fact is that they live in poverty.

I would love to write one big fat cheque but am also helping others with housing and other needs at the moment.
