Malcolm X Weekend in New Orleans, May 16th - 18th, 2025

Kamali Academy is a proud Afrikan-centered Virtual Homeschool Cooperative dedicated to nurturing the minds and spirits of our children through education rooted in African-centered history and culture.

While our students learn together online year-round, our annual family trip during Malcolm X weekend is the only time they meet in person—creating memories, building lifelong friendships, and celebrating our shared values.

This year, we’re excited to host our weekend gathering in New Orleans, with a special highlight: our school dance titled: "Usiku wa Umoja – Night of Unity", at the beautiful Algiers Music & Artists Studio, whose mission is to create a community hub through music, art and education.

We have also planned a "Kamali Service Day" to give back to the New Orleans community by helping plant in the Okra Garden at the Sankofa Farms. https://sankofanola.org/

As an Afrikan-centered school, we embody the principles of Kwanzaa all year long—unity, self-determination, collective work, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith—and Malcolm X weekend is the beautiful culmination of those principles in action.

✨ What Your Support Helps With:

Offsetting costs for families and teachers flying into New Orleans, many of whom are already investing significantly to be part of this special weekend.

Covering costs for the school dance, Usiku wa Umoja – Night of Unity, at the Beautiful Algiers Music & Artists Studio for our older students—a night they’ll never forget!

Funding activities such as park day, game night, and a special closing ceremony, where our children and families will celebrate, connect, and grow.
