One Victory At A Time

Dear Friends,

I am reaching out to ask for your support for the Merrell family during a very difficult time.

Matt and Kendra’s son, Kasen was involved in a serious 4-wheeler accident Sunday, May 4th. The emergency room doctor eventually told his parents, he initially didn’t think there was anything he could do for Kasen when he first arrived to the ER….but then Kasen opened his eyes.

For those who have witnessed Kasen’s determination and perseverance on the field, you know how remarkable he truly is.

Kasen has endured significant injuries:

Brain swelling, a ruptured spleen, a shattered leg, complications with his heart, two punctured lungs, snapped pelvis, a broken jaw, and a fractured arm…. and still HE OPENED HIS EYES!

Sunday, May 4th he was cleared for surgery, undergoing a craniotomy to address the brain swelling, an exploratory abdominal procedure to stop internal bleeding and orthopedic surgery for an open wound on his tibia and pins put in his heel.

**Sunday Night Update from Kendra**

The latest CT scan of his brain showed improvement, and the doctor expressed satisfaction with the results—this is encouraging news.

His abdomen will remain open with a wound vac for the next 2-3 days to monitor for any further bleeding, allowing for quick intervention if necessary. His heart enzyme levels have decreased, and he is no longer experiencing irregular rhythms.

If he remains stable, he is scheduled for femur surgery tomorrow morning.

Monday, May 5th Kasen was stable enough for the medical team to close his abdomen ahead of schedule and prepare him for his fifth surgery, which involved placing a rod in his femur.

Matt’s Afternoon Update

He’s out of surgery for the day rods are inside of bone and he stayed solid throughout the operation.
