Our dad, Donald Smith, finally hung up his work boots and retired this past December — ready to slow down and enjoy life a little. But just a few months later, life threw him a curveball: in April, he was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer. Not exactly the “retirement plan” he had in mind.
If you know our dad, you know he’s facing this with the same strength, courage, and stubborn determination he’s always carried (and yes, with sarcasm too).
Dad has always been the first to step in when someone else needed a hand — never asking for anything in return. And usually, he’d crack a joke while doing it. A lifelong resident of Hague, his roots here run deep. So many of you know him for his kindness, his willingness to help a neighbor, and his steady presence. Chances are, if you’ve met him, you have a story or two about how he’s helped you out.
Now it’s our turn to return the favor. While we are grateful for each step forward in treatment, the costs of medical care, travel, and everyday living are significant. Our priority is making sure he can focus fully on healing, surrounded by love and without financial worry.
All funds raised here will go toward supporting Dad through treatment and care.
We are deeply grateful for any support you can give, whether through a donation, sharing this fundraiser, or simply keeping our dad in your thoughts and prayers.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with him — and with us — during this fight.
