Jen Pope Rine; a very dear friend of mine and an amazing sister to Nick Pope. We would like to share this very emotional and unfortunate story with all of our friends and family near and far.
In August of last year, Jen chose to take a leap of faith and join her husband, Jason and his business partner Larry, as their Office Manager. Within her decision, Jen lost her full health coverage and financial compensation, with all of the unknown right in front of her.
This begins her story... February 19, 2021, Jen turned the "Big 40"! The following week she went for her initial mammogram, where 2 lumps were discovered in each of her breasts. Immediately after this discovery, she was scheduled for an ultrasound then a double biopsy. Diagnosis: Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Histologic Grade 2 in the right breast (5cm). The left breast was, thankfully benign. Next step, MRI.
The next few days awaiting a new consultation with her now, new team of doctors at Lee Health Cancer Center, with Jason, was never a meeting they could've ever imagined they would have. Jens thoughts going into this consultation were to remove the lump, followed by radiation. Unfortunately, the MRI revealed a second lump in her right breast, nearing her lymph nodes. Not the news either of them could think possible.
Here we are today... and their plan. Jen and Jason's insurance policy went into effect 12 days prior to the diagnosis. The insurance company has dropped her from the policy as it wasn't effective for 30 days prior to diagnosis. Jen has applied for financial assistance through the cancer center and thus far has been denied twice. The single mastectomy surgery is scheduled for April 15, Thursday and will cost Jen and Jason $91,000 out of pocket. This cost does not include any medications, following appointments and treatments.
Jen, just turning 40 , this being her first mammogram ever, is just so devastating to her and her family. 40 is a significant number in the Bible. We know God is in control.
Nick and I are sharing this with you as Jen is staying strong and knows she's got an army of support, but he and I know she really needs your prayers and help. I know that if Jen was asked to do the same for anyone, she would be the first to do so!
Thank you for reading this and any amount of support that you can share with her is extremely appreciated and much needed. If you would like to support Jen on Venmo, @jen-rine or please reach out to Nick or I if you wish to send her something personally.
Much love and God bless you all. Our Pink Warrior is going to kick this cancer right in the A$$. Thank you all for your love and support.
