Hi, my name is Janice, and I’m reaching out during one of the hardest times in my life.

I’ve been working full-time for over 3 and a half years, while also attending school to become a youth worker—because I’m passionate about helping the next generation and giving back to my community. But right now, I’m struggling to stay afloat.

I don’t have a car, so I spend around $70 a week on transportation (bus and Metra) just to get to work. That’s nearly $300 a month, just to keep showing up. It’s draining everything I have, and I’ve now fallen behind on rent and bills. I’m at real risk of eviction, and I’m scared.

On top of that, I’m the caregiver for three dogs who are not just pets, but my family. They’ve helped me through anxiety, stress, and long nights of studying and working. I’m doing all I can to keep them safe and cared for, too.

I’ve applied for assistance, cut every possible expense, and never stopped working or going to class—but it’s not enough. I’m asking for help as a last resort, just to get caught up and stay stable while I finish school and keep working.
