This spring, I was accepted into the highly respected post-baccalaureate program at UC Davis School of Medicine, a program designed to strengthen the academic foundation of aspiring doctors from underserved and underrepresented communities. For me, this isn’t just a stepping stone to medical school, it’s a life-changing opportunity to become the kind of doctor I’ve always aspired to be: one who serves, uplifts, and advocates for communities that are often overlooked.

While I’m incredibly grateful and excited for what’s ahead, the reality is that the cost of tuition and living expenses for this yearlong program exceeds what I can afford on my own. I’ve been awarded $10,000 in federal loans, which only covers about half of my tuition. This program does not allow us to work and emphasizes the importance of doing just solely focusing on the program. I’m actively applying for scholarships and looking into private loans, but there’s still a significant financial gap I need to close.
