Small Steps, Big Hope – Update from Rehab (Day 25 Post-Surgery)

We want to thank each and every one of you who has donated, shared, or sent kind words. Your support has made a world of difference in this incredibly difficult time.

Mom is now 25 days post-op from emergency spinal tumor surgery. Despite the odds, she’s making steady progress:

✅ Improved core balance and leg control
✅ 1-person slide board transfers at times
✅ Up to 18 minutes standing in a frame
✅ Improved sensation in the legs and pelvic area
✅ Tolerating exoskeleton therapy
✅ Knee bending, foot pushing, dorsiflexion

While she’s showing measurable gains, the rehab center has notified us that insurance will stop covering her stay soon despite her progress and against her care team’s recommendations.

We are now scrambling to find a safe and appropriate place where she can continue rebuilding the strength she needs to walk again. Assisted living and specialized neuro care facilities are costly, and unfortunately long-term care insurance can’t be purchased after a serious illness.

What’s even harder is that we are fighting this battle without the support we expected from the healthcare system. It feels like every step forward is met with a new hurdle.

We’re asking again: if you can give, please consider donating. If you’ve already given, please share. Every dollar truly helps us keep Mom safe, supported, and on the road to recovery.

Thank you again—for believing in her.

With love and gratitude,
Jessica & Family

Help My Mom Recover After Devastating Spinal Cord Injury

On July 8th, my incredible mother underwent emergency surgery to remove a spinal cord tumor. By the time it was discovered, the damage had already impacted her ability to walk.

Now, she’s in the fight of her life — working every single day in inpatient rehab to regain strength, mobility, and independence. But the road ahead is long, uncertain, and expensive.

My mom has spent her life helping others. As a dedicated nurse for 44 years, she gave her heart to every patient she cared for. She’s the kind of person who always puts others first — her patients, her coworkers, and especially our family. She is our rock, our anchor, our everything.

Now, she needs us.

We are raising funds to help cover the mounting medical bills and the cost of long-term care and rehabilitation. Insurance only goes so far, and the specialized therapy she needs to walk again and live independently is only partially supported by insurance. We’re also facing potential costs for home modifications, assistive equipment, and ongoing nursing care.

Every donation — no matter the amount — brings us one step closer to giving my mom the quality of care she deserves. If you can't donate, please share this with others who might be able to help.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting our family during this incredibly difficult time.

With gratitude,
Jessica
