What were the odds? 1 in about 600 million.

In May, after a long 6 year battle of unknowns, and hundreds of appointments, I was diagnosed with Parosteal Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, in my ankle and lower leg. Turns out Nancy was cancer after all.

What was the worst possible outcome? I have a below the knee amputation.

What’s the best possible outcome? I have a below the amputation to save my life and limit the possibility of the cancer spreading.

I’ve felt every human emotion known to man these last few years. It’d be easy to be angry and mad at the world, but all I feel is peace and gratitude. Peace with finally having an answer. Gratitude to those who spent countless hours of their lives trying to find answers. To my family and friends, especially my wife and mom, thank you for not giving up on me and supporting me through every single step.

A doctor in New York told me something that I’ll never forget. “It’s just bad biology kid. There’s absolutely nothing you, nor anyone else could have done to change this.” I’ve found so much peace in these words.

I always knew deep down I was put on this Earth to do something meaningful. Thankfully, the universe has a sense of humor and now I get to do it with one foot and live out my pirate dreams lol
