Making the Fiber Arts World More Beautiful

The Spanish Peacock has been involved in the fiber arts community for over eighteen years.  As our business has grown, we have kept a commitment to our customers for top notch service and flawless products, with an eventual goal of opening a fiber arts retail facility / shop / area / that could be used for fiber arts related classes and events. However, at the same time, we made a promise to our children to let them finish school with their childhood friends.   School is coming to an end within the next two years, and we're preparing to expand the shop and capabilities to the next level to better serve our customers' need for beautiful, affordable fiber arts tools.  To hit the ground running when our promise to the children is fulfilled in June 2022, we need to start this adventure now so we can transition to the new location as seamlessly as possible.

This Go Fund Me campaign is to raise money to finance this dream: the Cedar Springs Fiber Arts Retreat!  The new location will give us room for small retail shop. In addition to carrying Spanish Peacock products, the retail shop would have space to give a foothold to up-and-coming craftspeople. We are hoping to create a large enough space that we can eventually hold fiber classes and weekend retreats. And of course, we need facilities to raise fiber bearing animals, such as angora rabbits and cruelty-free Pygora goats. A large enough facility would include dedicated room to grow and forage natural dyes.
The ideal location will have several key features:
• An unrestricted designation will allow us to grow, change and expand as needed to better serve our customers
• Enough space for everything described above
• Further west from where we are currently, making it more accessible to fiber artists living in the central area of the US.

Putting together a Go Fund Me campaign is entirely out of our comfort zone. So far out, in fact, it might as well be another planet. We have never asked for help or money and wouldn’t now except we have hit a wall with the banks. But we refuse to give up on a dream we have cherished for so many years.  We were very sad when we realized, after talking with the bank, that a stellar credit score, business experience, passion and drive mean nothing if one is an independent craftsperson and doesn’t fit the cookie-cutter mold of a “good risk” for a loan.  So we have taken matters into our own hands! We are raising money to allow us to start building the Cedar Springs Fiber Retreat now, by getting the initial infrastructure in place for the shop/store and structures for animals. We have big dreams and just over two years to get them started, so the time is now!

Why should you contribute to this campaign? There are many reasons, but here are some of the top ones.
You can build a legacy with us! Many of you have been along with us on our journey so far, and we want to keep sharing the journey with you as we enter this new phase.  The retail store will allow you try Spanish Peacock spindles in person without waiting for a fiber festival...then fighting the crush and crowds! You can even watch your custom spindle being turned and finished in the expanded woodshop.  You can spend time hanging out with angora rabbits and Pygora goats, or learning about plants used in natural dyeing. For the aspiring woodworkers, in the future there will be woodturning workshops. Eventually we hope to host fiber arts classes and retreats, with yurts or cabins onsite for the convenience of students and teachers.  Everyone who contributes to this campaign will have their name displayed in the retail shop (if desired) to reflect our gratitude for their help. If you would prefer to stay anonymous – that’s OK too, just let us know!

How can you help?   Every little bit helps us reach our goal – however big or small of a contribution. Whether or not you can help out yourself, please share this with your fiber friends and guilds to get the word out.
