One Rand Project To London (UAL)

Hi there,

My name is Lebogang Kenneth Motsagi, and I am a 24-year old Cape Town based self-taught photographer, fashion stylist, designer and writer.

I currently sustain myself as a freelance photographer and stylist, and was featured in the Cape Times, The Star, 5 FM and covered an interview with the SABC for my group exhibition that took place at  ‘The Brick Lane Gallery, in London, UK. The exhibition ran from the 7th - 20th  November 2017. What  followed this was a set of press releases in the United Kingdom, an invitation for another group exhibition from The South Africa House in London, as well as a  potential membership from the Soho Photo Gallery in New York. I was also blessed enough to be part of the ABSA L'Atelier Top 100 Artists of The Year 2018.

I got accepted to start my 2018/2019 studies at the University Of The Arts London,  London College of Fashion. However, due to failure to raise the needed funds on time, I was unable to enroll and  had to change the process of getting myself to the UK.  Upon doing intensive research about Visas and scholarships for the past year and couple of months, I happened to stumble upon the Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa. I have gone through the guidelines and found that I qualify to apply for it.

This type of Visa involves a 2 step process. The first process includes applying for an endorsement letter from the British Fashion Council or the Arts Council England. The second step includes the process of applying for the actual visa itself once the endorsement has been approved. This will enable me to apply for a paid internship, make and sell my work in the UK and other countries, as well as work part-time jobs so that I can save up the money I make in order to pay for my own studies the following year. I can no longer depend on the government in my country to assist me anymore.  I've done that for the past 4 years and it has brought me nothing but disappointment and pain.

The costs involved are as follows:

- Endorsement application = $559,93 | R 7 977,71 {raised}
- VISA = $588,70  (R 8387,62)
- Flight & Travelling Insurance = $1 448,28 | R 20 634,71
- Health Service Charge =$1 562,60  | R 2 2263,46
- Accommodation = $15 623,57 |  R 222 599,94
- Living and travel expenses = $15 471,97 | R 220439,99

Grand Total = $35 255.05 | R 502 303,38

Current exchange rate $1 = 14,25 ZAR

My objective with this project is to get 500 000 people worldwide, to sponsor me with R1, £0,056 ($0,070) each, which will amount to R 500 000, £ 27182,78 ($35 093,38)  which is just enough to cover all my expenses listed above in full for the first year.

The alternative is to have 2 or more people in their respective countries, pair up in groups and focus on one of the items on the list above, in order to help me reach my target more effectively.

Please share with family members, friends, organisations, and people that may be able to assist.

My daily target is 80 individuals, which amounts to R80, £ 4,29, ($1,40) per day. Please help me reach my target.

Thank you in advance & God Bless You.

Love and light
