During the first Trump administration we saw a need for there to be a safety net for our community members who are impacted by I.C.E. This fund helps the individuals and families impacted by I.C.E. deal with the immense financial burden that comes from having a family member imprisoned. I.C.E. imprisonment leaves families with lost wages, bond payments, legal fees and travel expenses leading to extreme levels of stress and financial insecurity. Unfortunately, we are now seeing a major uptick in the number of people being routinely imprisoned by I.C.E. and we want to be ready to help our next community member who needs it.

I want to thank those of you who have contributed to the One Pulse-New Paltz fund in the past. The funds have already been used once for a New Paltz family that found itself in crisis after a woman with a young child was left without her husband when he was imprisoned by I.C.E in late 2021.

Family of New Paltz is currently in conversation with the family of Ali Faqirzad to see how these funds may assist them. Ali is a refugee who fled the Taliban and took all of the necessary and legal steps to receive asylum here in the United States only to be imprisoned after attending a routine fear screening interview (which he passed).

The fund is held and managed by Family of New Paltz, an organization known for its work in Crisis intervention; emergency short-term counseling; information and referral; case management; care coordination; emergency food; and access to Adult, Adolescent, and Domestic Violence Case Management, Child Care, and Emergency Housing Services.

In order to keep this fund viable please consider donating to One Pulse-New Paltz Emergency Immigrant Alliance Fund. We want to be in the position to help another family should the need arise to do so. Donations can be made by making a check out to Family of New Paltz with One Pulse-New Paltz in the memo. All funds collected will be used exclusively to help community members in New Paltz who have been impacted by I.C.E either through the detention of a family member or by being imprisoned themselves. The fund helps families pay for daily necessities such as groceries, electricity or legal expenses. You can make a donation by donating to this GoFundMe. Please consider making a donation to help protect your neighbors.
