Betty Guardado, is a 40 yr. old mother, and wife. She works at a local union for hospitality workers. She has committed herself to leading people in her Phoenix community for many years, but she started gaining weight. Being busy building her career, and her family, mixed with some genetic issues, she hadn’t prioritized her health. She says “I always wanted to get into shape, but I didn’t know how and I felt I didn’t have the time..” “....I always thought, ‘I’ll do it tomorrow!’” Tomorrow turned into next week, into next month and so forth. When Betty first decided she wanted to start her journey of living a healthier lifestyle, she was weighing 330lbs and suffered from: Type-2 diabetes, sciatic nerve pain, high blood pressure, ovarian symptoms, and also had to take three different asthma inhalers and high thyroid medications.  Betty's journey started in 2008 when she had the Bypass surgery, Betty says, "I never expected the surgery to get me the results. The surgery was only good as a tool and it was going to stop me from dying". After her surgery she was at 220lbs.  In October 2010, Betty's dad passed away from diabetes .Having to lose the man that raised you and which you love with all your heart, is never easy. Yet, moments as hard as this one, we have the decision to either let them break us or make us. To Betty, this was a tragic moment in her life and saying goodbye to her dad helped her realize the kind of life she wanted to have for herself. At this time is when she vowed to herself that she was not going to let diabetes and her other health issues take her life. In October of 2011, 8 months after having her little munchkin, Davisito she started exercising more consistently and eating healthier. With the help of a personal trainer using cardio & weight training, 6 times a week and improved eating habits Betty had dropped a total of 70lbs!  On Oct. 31st, 2016 4 months after Santiago, her second child, Betty decided to join The Camp Transformation Center to help her lose the baby weight she had put on. She not only lost baby weight but went on to a second challenge, and lost a total of 55lbs and 13% body fat by the end of Feb. 2017!

This fundraiser page is to raise money so that Betty can get a Body Contouring Surgery AND REACH HER GOAL. Betty has completely changed her diet, fitness and lifestyle.  Her hard work has paid.  The over 200+ pound weight loss has lead to excess loose skin.  In order for her transformation to be complete, she needs to have about 6-8 lbs worth of excess skin removed.  Betty says, "It's like closing a chapter in my life, and getting rid of my punishment for not taking care of my body.” We absolutely admire Betty for her dedication, determination, and leadership. Betty has inspired countless people to start their own journey at the camp. Through her story she motivates and coaches all of us along the way.

The cost for Betty's surgery will be $25,000 and none of it is covered by her insurance.  Betty has dedicated her life to fighting for worker's rights, working for her community and pushing for a better quality of life. She is vocal and has no problem in asking for help for other people but does not do the same for herself.  That is why her Awesome Fit Family is asking for your help on her behalf so we can raise the necessary funds for her skin removal surgery.   Our goal is to help her finance the surgery in its entirety.  Thank you in advance for helping us reach our goal!!!
