Please help 1 of my former students go to college!

Hi, my name is Felicia. I have worked in education for 16 years. For 13 years I worked in a public school district as a teacher and assistant principal. I am now going into my 3rd year as a building principal. If any of you know me well, you know that I absolutely love what I do.

Throughout my educational career, I have worked with many students who have had difficulties learning and managing emotions. My favorite part of the job is working with students who struggle and need additional support, which is why I created a mentor program. Through this mentor program I have worked with many students, but one student in particular, who you see in the picture, really made a mark on my life and molded me into the educator I am today.

I taught this young man in 5th grade. I watched him struggle both personally and academically with school and emotions through his intermediate years. We worked tirelessly and through lots of tears to help him learn the strategies he needed to cope. I taught the student for 2 years and then left that building to become the assistant principal at the districts middle school.

I then had the privilege of working with this young man through middle school, where I watched him make mistakes, but learn, and grow into the young man he is today. We got him involved in activities and sports and worked on grades. By the time he hit high school, I continued to mentor him as if he were my own child.

We lost touch for a little, as he moved to a new district, and I left to become a building principal. We reconnected his senior year. He was so excited to walk out on the football field as a senior and be recognized. He asked if I would be there to see him and experience that moment with him.

When I watched him walk out on that field, it reassured me why I got into this profession in the first place. He ended up graduating with honors and was accepted to Lebanon Valley College where he is going to play football and track.

There is one problem… he is short $5000 for his tuition. When he called me that day and told me he couldn’t go to school because of this, it truly broke my heart. I immediately began looking for resources to help him. Unfortunately, we exhausted all possible resources (loans, grants, scholarships).

If you know me, I truly hate asking for help but please help me send this young man off to college to fulfill his dream, not only being an athlete, but also majoring in education, because he wants to follow in my footsteps and help struggling kids like him. Please lets not him become another statistic and consider donating, as this young man’s future is bright. I will do everything in my power to help him make it. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope you consider donating and helping him achieve his goal.
