I never thought I’d be in a position to ask for help like this, but after an unexpected accident this past weekend, we’re facing a situation we can’t handle on our own.

On Saturday night, while we were home watching TV, we suddenly heard a loud crash. When we ran outside, we found that both my car and my boyfriend’s car had been hit while parked. What started as a scary moment quickly turned into something much more overwhelming.

At first, I was hopeful my car could be repaired—but we’ve since found out the damage may be severe, including possible frame damage, which could mean it’s not fixable. Both of our vehicles were newer to us and are still being paid off. While we’re incredibly grateful to have gap insurance to cover what’s owed, it leaves us without any funds to replace them.

Our cars are essential to our daily lives. We rely on them not only for work, but also to run our business and maintain our day-to-day responsibilities. Losing both at the same time has put us in an incredibly difficult position.

We are taking the proper steps to hold the person responsible accountable, but legal action can take months—if not longer—and there are no guarantees. In the meantime, life doesn’t pause. Bills, rent, and responsibilities continue, and we’re doing everything we can to stay afloat.
