Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out on behalf of a strong, kind, and loving cousin, who is quietly facing the deeply emotional and financial challenges of fertility treatment.
Background to their journey so far.
After 1 failed round of IVF, in the second round, they tried ICSI. Of 11 eggs collected, only 2 were usable at first. One fertilised and was transferred on day 3. Unfortunately, no embryos were frozen.
Later, the clinic discovered that 6 of the initially "immature" eggs had actually fertilised late and developed into strong blastocysts. But because the clinic didn’t use a time-lapse incubator or offer PGT testing, these couldn’t be frozen or used — a heartbreaking missed opportunity.
As you can imagine, they were devastated in that very stressful moment. After going through months of injections, anxiety, stress and failure. This not only meant not having any frozen but also means that now they cannot simply pay for a frozen transfer (roughly £1,500-1,600), they have to start from scratch and which costs anywhere between £5,600 - £10,000+.
Next steps
Unfortunately, as many know, IVF is not only emotionally taxing—it’s incredibly expensive. After the cost of their previous treatment and the financial strains, they are now struggling to afford another round.
They’ve explored every option: saving, budgeting (which has helped a bit), clinic payment plans (not as easy to get accepted as you would think - it's like applying for a mortgage), but the reality is that this next cycle comes with thousands of pounds in medical and medication costs.
They aren’t looking for sympathy—only for a little support to help complete the family they’ve always dreamed of. Every donation, no matter how small, brings them one step closer to bringing another child into the world. Even if you can’t donate, sharing this campaign would mean the world.
What the fund will cover
Funds will help cover treatment costs, testing, medications, and follow-up scans and (fingers crossed) frozen storage.
Let’s help them write the next chapter in their family story—together. Donations of any size will be welcome and much appreciated.
With love and gratitude,
Kay Charles - A cousin who cares x
