One more day with aleia.

I never imagined I’d be writing this.

My baby sister Aleia is slipping away before our eyes. She’s lived her entire life with type 1 diabetes—a brutal disease that’s slowly taken pieces of her. Her vision is almost gone. Her right leg is constantly swollen. She’s endured agonizing surgeries on her foot, losing several toes along the way. But she always pushed through, no matter how hard it got. She smiled through pain no one else could understand.

Now she’s in the hospital—and this time, it’s different. This time, it’s terrifying.

Her kidneys are shutting down. She’ll have to start dialysis soon, but doctors believe the infection in her foot has already spread. Her blood is septic. They’re detecting a murmur in her heart. Her left hip is inflamed and possibly infected, too. Her body is failing. She's exhausted. She's scared. And we are watching someone we love more than words can say fight for her life... with less strength each day.

Every beep of the monitor feels heavier. Every doctor’s face makes our stomachs drop. I’ve never felt this helpless.

Aleia shouldn’t have to suffer like this. She shouldn’t have to fight alone.

We are asking—begging—for help. Any support you can offer will go directly to her care: hospital bills, urgent treatments, medication, and transportation for the dialysis she'll now rely on to survive. But most of all, it will show her she’s not forgotten. That her life matters. That she’s loved beyond measure.
