A little about me, my name is Kira and I'm an ECE Teacher in the Geelong region. Earlier this year, just before the
AFL Barwon season began, I tore my ACL, training for what I hoped would be my final season on the field after a historical Premiership win for myself and my club. Sadly, that dream has been cut short, and now as the season ends I’m now preparing for ACL surgery followed by months of rehabilitation.
I’ll be unable to work for at least 6 weeks — no work means no income — while my recovery will require regular physiotherapy sessions at $100 each.
The small insurance payout I received from my football club was capped at $2,000 and has already been almost entirely used during the initial treatment after the injury in March.
Based on my surgeon’s and physio’s recommendations, I’ll need around 12–15 sessions in the first 6 weeks, plus ongoing care, travel costs, and a buffer for unexpected expenses.
This injury hasn’t just been physically challenging — it’s also affected my mental health. Football has been my outlet, my passion, and my community, and losing that so suddenly has been tough.
Staying committed to my rehab isn’t just about walking again — it’s about restoring my confidence, purpose, and mental wellbeing.
My goal is to raise $2,500 to cover the initial 6 weeks of physio rehab and weekly therapy session to keep myself going until I’m strong enough to pass the return to work check and start earning for myself again.
Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a genuine difference in helping me get back on my feet — quite literally.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
