My college roommate and I are taking an old-school American road trip—something we’ve talked about for years.
We already have tickets to two MLB games: the Chicago Cubs vs. New York Mets in Chicago and the Milwaukee Brewers vs. Detroit Tigers in Detroit. From there, we’re heading to Cleveland to visit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
My friend is a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, so we’ll also be stopping in Pittsburgh to experience the NFL Draft. We have been talking about going to the draft together for many years so this is the one! He’s from Canada and is especially excited to extend the trip with me to see parts of the U.S. we have dreamed of visiting, including Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky. I used to live in Kentucky and loved it there. I am really looking forward to getting back there one last time. One more fine drink in the heart of bourbon country.
This trip means more to me than just travel. I am currently fighting Stage 4 Kidney Cancer that spread into my spine. I've had surgeries, chemotherapy and have been taking strong medication to help me battle. Although there has been some success, the cancer is slowly taking away my ability to do even simple things. I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to remain independent or take on something like this.
I love this guy like a brother—we’ve been friends for 33 years—and this may be our last chance to do something like this together. I’m on a fixed income, and any support would help us enjoy the trip without constantly worrying about a tight budget. Chad promised my mom that he is going to be looking after me along the way. Chad knows I am moving slow these days. I am hoping I can get by with a walker or a cane. However, I have a wheelchair for a reason and he is prepared to push me wherever I want to go. He also knows I need his help with driving my car. I am doing rehab in order to be the best I can be for this epic adventure!
Whether through a donation or simply sharing this page, I truly appreciate the support more than I can put into words.
