Hi, my name is Megan and I am starting this fundraiser for my life time long friend Scott. Making some of his wishes of a lifetime and turning it into a reality as he received the most terrible news June 6th, 2021 that has changed his life forever. On June 6th, 2021 Scott was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myloid Leukemia). He wasnt excepted to survive for more then 1 month. He recieved his first round of chemotherapy immediately and undergoing blood transfusions to keep him alive . After spending 32 days in Princess Maragret Hospital, 5 bone marrow biopsies, 11 transfusions, he was released
and healthy enough to return home. During the 32 days in the hospital, realizing everything he knew would never be the same, he was diagnosed and never looked back. He also lost his job as a Concrete Former. Luckly for having his family he had to move into his parents house at the age of 38 years old very scared, confused and feeling hopeless. Scott was given an estimated life span of only 6-8 months. In the next few months he under went 2 more full rounds of chemo leaving him completely discouraged and very sick. At the 4 month mark Scott received some surprising yet excellent news that he has achieved remission which meant he had less than 5% blasts of cancer in his blood but the down side to this good news was that unfortunately this remision would not last and his only hope for success of beating this terrible disease would be work towards a stem cell transplant as that would be the only chance for his survival. At the 6 month mark he met with the Princess Margaret Hospiral Transplant team which left him even more discouraged, hopeless and scared because he was told he was not a good candidate for the transplant and that his odds for success were under 20% and even if he did achieve success with the bone marrow transplant his cancer would return shortly after it taking as due to the genetic type of AML that he has again that makes him ineligible for stem transplant changing him to terminal status ( it was at that time they told him his life expecting was less then 24 months)meaning that he will die from this disease. The only other option for Scottt was that he would be placed on an experimental medication called Onureg which is a pill form of chemotherapy that is supposed to slow the growth of cancer cells in his blood. With this being the only plan for Scott he decided to continue to fight and get started with this new pill form (Chemo) 14 days on and 14 days off. He is always having to go for blood work to continually check on his blood levels. This has such a toll on Scott's normal life, he is now unable to work and so many different debilitating side effects. By August 2022 he was told he had lived passed expectancy and he was given no more then 2 years of life expectancy when either the medication of taking chemo or the AML would end his life. At this time he is coming up on his 2 year mark since diagnosis. Today as if Feb 2023 he has completed the 16th round of chemo which has made it the 17th total round of chemotherapy. He has lost 50lbs, battling daily with the side effects of the chemotherapy, and still managing to make the best of this while keeping a smile on his face daily knowing that everything could ge alot worse at anytime. Scott is an inspiration and such a warrior. I am truly amazed with how strong, positive and genuinely so loving one human being can be on a daily basis no matter what comes his way. can be and the very difficult of a world we all now live in and yet has never allowed any of this change his positive outlook. Scott lives on a fixed income and has barely enough to get by and yet he is still such an amazing, caring, compassionate and trusting person he has always been. Scott has been such a genuinely, loving and trusting real friend I can say I have been blessed to have in my life and I cant do anything to save him but continue to support him as he would support any of his family or friends, be by his side through the good and the very bad and I want to make his dream of a life time a reality before he is to sick to enjoy any more of his life when the time comes that the AML or the long term effects of consist treatment of chemotherapy will at some point in the near future end his life suddenly & tear him apart until his last breath. He is scared but at the same time extremely the bravest human being I've ever known in my entire life and that's an understatement. If anyone deserves the dream of a lifetime to become a reality before his last days on this earth, I truly can stand proud and honored to speak and fight for Scott to try to make this dream come true. With the prognosis being the worst it could be, where most would be laying in bed as sick with severe flu like symptoms Scott gets up everyday determinned not to waste any of the time he has left. I want to come together for Scott to allow him to see parts of the world he has always wanted to experience. When asked what he would do if he had one wish his wish would be drive across our country and south bond up the coast line eventually circuling Canada and the United States. Let's all show Scott how much he is loved and supported by making it possible for his wish to come true. Obviously Scott could fall sick at any point meaning he would have fly back to Canada to recieve health care, so the sooner we get going on this trip the more likely we are to accomplish the full round trip. I figured this will be approximately 4 to 6 weeks to see all the sites along the way fulfill many activities along the way. Departing from Innisfil, Ontario, Canada heading north and then west across our beautiful country all the way to beautiful British Columbia then south to California where he wants to rent a motorcycle he can ride the California coastline then continue on the trip east to Florida then north until he is back into Canada...."this is a trip of a lifetime" along the way without doing to much planning making decisions as we go we will be documenting and positing photos and videos on all social media. Scott will be writing and keeping a journal with all experiences and feelings for his family and friends along the way. Any extra money donated to Scott's go fund me will be directly sent to the princess margaret cancer society to continue to find a cure for all types of cancer with Hope's we will oneday find a cure for cancer. There will be receipts for each and every expense for this trip of a lifetime for scott and every cent thereafter will not go to waste...the more money donated the more that will make Scott's dreams become a reality before he is gone and also donated to put towards Cancer research. This trip is approximately 15,000 km, and will cost a fair amount. We are hoping to get a min 50,000 to make this trip extra special. Every dollar spent and the entire trip will be documented and we will be positing an itinerary with break down of our estimated expenses. "Scott's TRIP OF A LIFETIME"
